They/Them, Program Assistant

About

Magdelene (They/Them) is a second year Fairhaven student completing an interdisciplinary degree surrounding topics of human and social rights, design skills, and psychology. They come from a mixed black and indigenous background and navigate life as an openly queer person of color who has experienced homelessness, as well as a passport recipient. These aspects have shaped their experiences and understanding of the world around them and how it can affect student's abilities to attend classes and existence, as basic needs are integral to feeling safe and experiencing joy. They work in the garden as a program assistant to the Western Success Scholars, maintaining the shadow grove, which is decorated with lively student-made glass mosaics. In their spare time they create art out of bones, paint, upcycle thrifted clothes, and crochet. Post grad, they hope to become a social worker and survivor advocate, and eventually a licensed counselor.
