Olive
They/She, Peer Navigator
About
Olive (they/she) is a first-generation student studying Biocultural Anthropology, Communication Studies, and Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. Their studies focus on stress and catharsis, punk ethics, and alternative media. Olive is also the Community Engagement Intern at Northwest Youth Services. Outside of school and work, Olive likes to attend live music, upcycle clothing, and collage. She is also a radio DJ at KUGS!
They come from a mixed-ethnicity, queer, poor, and unaccompanied homeless youth background. She has been a financially independent renter in Bellingham for four years and is in their sixth and final year at Western. They have experience navigating basic needs resources, disability accommodations, grief, and managing work while attending classes. Olive hopes to enter a career in social work post-graduation. She is a trained active listener, has 6 years of professional experience in peer mentorship, and feels strongly about self-advocacy and the advocacy of her peers. Their mentorship style is personable and relaxed, and they strive to implement the ideologies of radical acceptance as a Peer Navigator.
