Basic Needs Community Lunch

Wednesday, May 1st 12-1pm in VU 735

Join the staff of the Basic Needs Hub (Off Campus Living, Basic Needs, and Western Success Scholars) to discuss resources related to basic needs and answer questions. This event kicks off Foster Care Awareness Month that will boost resource awareness and referrals for former foster youth. All are welcome for food, conversation, and learning in community! Sock Creature Creation

Friday, May 10th 5:30-8pm in VU 7th floor kitchen and VU 735

Help serve our local organization Skookum Kids by spending time to make sock monkeys and other creatures that will be a treasured item for a youth in foster care. All materials will be provided, and no experience is required! Come for the snacks, company, and to serve. The event is coordinated by Western Success Scholars and with National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH)

Foster Film Screening

Monday, May 13th 5-7pm in VU 552

From HBO, this 2019 documentary looks at the moving stories behind the largest county child protection agency in the U.S. Attend this film screening and discussion to understand challenges and barriers foster youth frequently face. Food will be provided.

Community Resource Fair

Wednesday, May 22nd 11am-1:30pm at Red Square

Stop by the resource fair to learn about campus and community resources to support student basic needs. Resources will include Opportunity Council, Basic Food applications, Futures NW, DCYF and the ETV Program, Youthnet, Career Services Center, Student Health Center, Counseling and Wellness Center, Sustainability Engagement Institute, the Community Service Center, and the Western Hub of Living Essentials (WHOLE).

Basic Needs Meet and Greet

Thursday, May 30th 2:30-4:30pm in the Underground Coffee House

Do you know who staffs the Basic Needs Hub? Do you know how to refer students to campus or community resources? Come by the Underground Coffee House and learn more about Off Campus Living, Basic Needs, and Western Success Scholars in the final event for Foster Care Awareness Month.
